What are Slack huddles and how do they work?

Slack huddles offer an audio-only feature designed to recreate the experience of a person or group of people at work dropping by your desk to ask a question or solve a problem. Called Huddles, Slack said it was intended to “recreate the spontaneous, informal discussions you miss at the office”.

What are Slack Huddles?

To help you develop an idea, catch up with a colleague, catch up after an important meeting or start an informal conversation with your colleagues, Slack has created Huddles, which it describes as a “lightweight audio method for starting live conversations”. The idea is that with a single click in Slack, you can start a huddle in any channel or direct message. Everyone in that channel or direct message can join or leave the huddle at will.

Huddles allow you to take a break from negotiating busy schedules.

How do Slack huddles work?
Slack huddles can have up to 50 participants. Anyone participating in a conversation can join a huddle as soon as it starts. You will receive an invitation to join if a huddle is started in a DM.

When you join a huddle from your desktop, you can share your screen and enable live subtitles in English (other languages are in preparation). Remember that in Slack Connect channels and DMs, people from other organizations must have access to Huddles in order to start or join them.
